Online Streaming

Who doesn’t like to save money? I know I do. And many Americans are doing just that by cutting the cord. What that means is that they are going to their cable provider and canceling all cable television subscriptions and only going with the internet. So you may ask, “How can I watch my shows with just internet?” I will go into detail about a few ways to watch your favorite shows without paying the heavy fees.

If you like your local television, the easiest way to get those channels is to buy an antenna. There are many antennas on the market that can bring in your favorite local channels, such as NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and more, in the crystal clear high definition for free. It is easy to set up and a no-brainer if you want to save money.

So, you have your antenna set up. The next thing to do is to order high-speed internet through your internet service provider. You want to have enough speed to support streaming so the minimum for standard definition is 2 Mbps. For high definition in 1080p, it is recommended that you have at least 12 Mbps. Make sure you go above and beyond so that you do not run into any buffering issues.

The next thing you can do is subscribe to premium channels such as HBO, Showtime, and Starz to watch all your favorite movies and exclusive shows. These companies offer different ways to watch their channel such as on your television through an app, on a tablet and even on your cell phone. All you need is internet access.

A way to get the best of both worlds is subscription-based streaming services. Companies such as Hulu, Sling TV, YouTube TV and DirectTV Now are all competing to get your business. They all offer a plethora of channels along with local and premium channels starting at around $40. These too can be accessed on your television via a streaming device such as the Apple TV, Roku or Amazon Fire and can also be played through an app on your tablet and/or cell phone. Thankfully, these companies offer 7 day free trials so the best way to find out what works best is to try them out for yourself.

There are also other subscription-based companies such as Amazon Prime and Netflix that offer exclusive television shows and movies for a low cost. With the rise in popularity in these services, it is almost the norm to have both a streaming service along with a subscription to Netflix and you would still be paying less than you were to the big cable providers.

So there you have it. The future of television is not paying your cable subscriber boat loads of money and being underwhelmed by what you are receiving. The future is the antenna and streaming. Many people around have already adopted this way of living to cut back on the costs so it would be wise to do more research on exactly what is best for you and your family.
